Presentation of the first edition of the Abarca Film Festival at the Filmoteca de Murcia
Yesterday we presented the first edition of the 'Abarca Film Festival' at La Filmoteca de la Región de Murcia , a micro-short film contest organized by with the collaboration of the Ministry of Culture and Spokesperson,La Filmoteca Francisco Rabal and Redvisiona . The contest is open to filmmakers from all over the world.
This new cultural initiative was presented by Marta López-Briones, general director of the Institute of Cultural Industries and the Arts (ICA),Pedro Martínez-Abarca, managing director of Abarca Shoes, and the director of the festival, Pascual Vera. López-Briones highlighted "the constant involvement of 'Abarca Shoes' with the culture and society of the Region of Murcia", and thanked the organizers of the event "for their work in supporting young creators, helping to publicize, through initiatives like this micro-short film festival, the work they do". "We must all support our culture, take a direct part in its development, the administrations, the citizens and also the companies. We believe that this is the path of collaboration that we must follow and for this reason the Government has created a complete plan of tax incentives In this sense, 'Abarca Shoes' is one of the companies that have become an example of responsible management and we, from the regional government, are delighted to collaborate with them in a new cultural initiative for the city of Murcia", added López-Briones.

Free-themed works may be submitted to the 'Abarca Film Festival' micro-short film competition, and filmmakers of any nationality who have reached the age of 18 may participate. The micro-shorts must be original and have been made after January 1, 2014.
The deadline for submission is from April 25 toJuly 10thATTENTION: we extend the deadline until September 20. Films may not be longer than two minutes (including bumpers). They must also be subtitled (English subtitles if the short is in Spanish, Spanish subtitles if the short is in English, and English or Spanish subtitles if the short is in any other language).
To participate, those interested must fill out a form that they will find on our website.
Through this form, the files requested for the registration of the short film will be sent: the film file, the poster and 3 frames.
Subsequently, the organization will send an email informing whether or not it has been accepted and the accepted ones will be published on the festival's website in the "Shorts to contest" section.
For this contest, from Abarca Shoes we have assembled a jury that includes prominent film professionals, such as the actress María Luisa San José, the directors Chema García Ibarra and Adán Aliaga, awarded for their work in competitions such as Cannes, Berlin or at the European Film Awards, the also actress and screenwriter of productions such as 'La que se avecina' Araceli Álvarez de Sotomayor, and the president of the Cine-Club Segundo de Chomón and president of the Mula Spanish Film Week, Martín del Toro .
The 'Abarca Film Festival' will award, during a gala to be held at the Filmoteca, a total of 3,500 euros in prizes. Two jury prizes will be established, endowed with 1,500 and 1,000 euros respectively, and a public prize, endowed with 1,000 euros.
As part of the first edition of the 'Abarca Film Festival', and in parallel with the micro-short film competition, the cycle 'Pisando con garbo' will be presented at the Filmoteca de la Región next October, offering a series of four-day films that have shoes as a common denominator. Specifically, the Spanish film 'Piedras' (Ramón Salazar, 2002), the American films 'With Magic in Shoes' (Thomas MacCarthy, 2014) and 'In Their Shoes' (Curtis Hanson, 2005), the British film, will be screened. 'The Red Shoes' (Michael Powell, 1948) and the French production 'The Big Blonde with a Black Shoe' (Ives Robert, 1972), which won the Silver Bear at the Berlin Festival.
